Grilled Fruit Kabobs with Mint Sour Cream Dipping Sauce - Wines of Sicily

Recipes & Pairings

With their crisp acidity and fresh fruit flavors, Sicily’s wines are versatile when it comes to food pairing. In general, white wines are better with lighter-bodied foods and fresh cheeses, while reds pair naturally with richer dishes. That said, white wine lovers can rely on Grillo to complement the entire meal, from pasta to grilled white meats and goat cheese. And the go-to for red-wine lovers is Nero d’Avola, which matches with everything from antipasti to grilled meats.

Dip these grilled dessert kabobs in a sweetened sour cream and mint ‘fondue’ for a fun summer treat. Enjoy with a glass of Sicilia DOC Grillo.

Ingredients:

  • 1 Quart assorted fruit suited for grilling, such as strawberries, melon, peaches, plums or figs. Cut if large.
  • Wooden skewers, soaked in water
  • 1 Pint sour cream
  • 1 Bunch mint
  • 2 Teaspoons confectioners’ sugar, dissolved in 2 teaspoons water

Directions:

Finely chop a tablespoon of mint and add it to the sour cream and sugar slurry.  Whisk to combine.  Set aside.

Light a grill or pre heat a grill pan on medium high.

Thread the fruit randomly on the skewers and grill until charred.  Rotate and move frequently.  When finished, serve with the sour cream dipping sauce and garnish the kababs with additional mint leaves.  Makes 4 servings.
